Developing an online forum for a community of practice in ethics and data sharing

The Ethics and Data-Sharing Working Group has taken forward the implementation of an online platform for building a community of ethics and data sharing practitioners and interested researchers. The platform will bring together this community to discuss ethical issues, plan and implement collaborative projects, write papers, and generate and share further opportunities in the ethics and data-sharing space.

Thus far the first version of the platform is currently undergoing testing, where we have designed the terms and conditions (T’s & C’s) of use, and an online sign-up process that includes agreement to these T’s & C’s. We have identified several initial projects and ethical issues that we would like to use to launch the platform and to seed participation and discussion, and are finalizing these in advance of opening the platform to the research community. They will address issues such as research risks, benefit-sharing, research culture and community engagement, and data sharing. Our next steps are for internal testing and implementation of platform content and functionality prior to launching the platform.

In addition, we have met with the PHA4GE Training and Workforce Development Working Group and agreed to harmonize efforts to ensure that relevant sessions for ethics and data sharing are included wherever appropriate, in workshops and training that are generated through PHA4GE.
