During the first half of 2022 the PHA4GE Ethics and Data Sharing Working Group opened a call for sub-grant applications for projects that focused on research ethics and data sharing in health research. Out of all the applications received, four were successful. From the beginning, it is their intention to assist and support their sub-grantees throughout their projects. This will be achieved by promoting open communication between the sub-grantees and the working group, assigning a facilitator to each group of sub-grantees and conducting an in-person workshop in Mauritius in November 2022.
Zooming into the workshop planning, Anja Bedeker, a co-chair of the working group, will be one of the attendees. She shared the workshop’s main purpose which is, ‘to provide awardees with all the “tools” they will need to complete their projects and learn new skills in the process’. A notable activity that the sub-grantees will take part in is building a theory of change and a log-frame for their projects. The four facilitators assigned to each group of sub-grantees will play a pivotal role in assisting sub-awardees further during the workshop as required on other elements of their projects. Tailoring the needs of each group of sub-grantees may include brainstorming sessions, assistance with refining projects, offering specific skills training (e.g. questionnaire design, analysing qualitative data, statistical analysis) and identifying useful resources.
After the workshop each facilitator will continue with regular meetings, mentorship and training with their group of sub-grantees.
The best way to become involved in other activities of the working group is becoming a member. This can be done by registering as a member on the PHA4GE website and navigating the Ethics and Data Sharing platform.
