Genomics and Bioinformatics Training Coordinator
Organization: Public Health Alliance for Genomic Epidemiology (PHA4GE)
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
Position: Training Coordinator
Type: 6 months

About Us:
PHA4GE is at the forefront of public health genomics, developing standards and advanced training in genomics and bioinformatics. As a Training Coordinator, you will be part of a team working on our Wastewater Surveillance (WWS) Project across our various Working Groups.
Role and Responsibilities:
As a Training Coordinator, you will:
- Plan, co-create, coordinate, implement, and deliver training material in Wastewater Surveillance.
- Schedule and coordinate training sessions and workshops, ensuring logistical aspects, materials, and technology requirements are in place.
- Implement assessments to measure the effectiveness of training programs and collecting feedback for continuous improvement.
- Identify areas for potential collaboration within the project
- Keep abreast of the progress across working groups to facilitate up-to-date training and development in Wastewater Surveillance.
Qualifications and Skills:
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- At least a Master’s degree related to bio-sciences
- Experience in coordinating development and delivery of training relevant to biosciences or public health.
- Expertise in online training formats and virtual learning environments
- Strong communication skills, a passion for learning and development, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Data Architect – Wastewater Surveillance

About Us:
PHA4GE is a leading public health consortium based at the University of the Western Cape, dedicated to developing standards and best practices in public health genomics. As we expand our projects to include Wastewater Surveillance, we are seeking a skilled Data Architect to join our dynamic team.
Role and Responsibilities:
As a Data Architect for the Wastewater Surveillance project, your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing software solutions to enhance Wastewater Surveillance methodologies.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate software into genomic epidemiology projects
- Ensuring the security, efficiency, and scalability of software solutions
- Conducting thorough testing and debugging of software applications
Qualifications and Skills:
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- A Life Sciences background
- Strong understanding of databases (i.e., SQL, Postgres or MySQL, JSON /JSONb)
- Familiarity of Genomic Databases (i.e., ENA, NCBI etc.)
- Knowledge of biological sequence formats (FASTQ etc.)
- Understanding of data storage (S3-Buckets)
- Experience with validation and schema design (JSON-Schema, LinkML)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
