PHA4GE Newsletter – April 2023

Editorial

With the first quarter of 2023 being completed; the field of bioinformatics continues to push the boundaries of scientific discovery and understanding. In this edition of our newsletter we are thrilled to highlight some of the exciting updates and activities taking place in the consortium and broader community in the first quarter of this year.

World TB day which takes place on March 24th every year, is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness about tuberculosis and advocating for efforts to eliminate this deadly disease. As a leading cause of death worldwide, TB remains a major public health challenge. In her article, Zenande highlights the significance of World TB Day and the importance of continued efforts to combat TB through effective diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies.

One of the highlights of the past year was the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting, which brought together leaders from academia, industry, and government to address global health challenges. This meeting focused on critical issues such as infectious diseases, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases. The discussions and collaborations that took place at this meeting have the potential to shape the future of public health interventions and policies, and Gabrielle provided a brief overview of the key takeaways from this event.

In addition, PHA4GE Working Groups are excited to actively participate in the Applied Bioinformatics and Public Health Microbiology (ABPHM) Conference, where experts from around the world will gather to focus on the implications of data-driven genomics.

Lastly, the PHA4GE Data Structures Working Group reflects on their recent preprint on Quality Control Contextual Data Tags paper which addresses the challenges of sharing lower quality datasets.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to bringing you more exciting updates in our future editions.
