Dr Dominique Anderson, Researcher and Team Lead for Bio Collection Informatics, South African National Bioinformatics Institute, University of the Western Cape

Prof Alan Christoffels, Director & DST/NRF Research Chair in Bioinformatics and Health Genomics MRC Bioinformatics Unit, South African National Bioinformatics Institute, University of the Western CapeSam Nicholls, PhD, University of Birmingham

Topic:
Discussion on the role of laboratory information management systems (LIMS) designed to collect, process, and store human biospecimens. The presenters will detail the utility of LIMS in strengthening lab systems, including its role in research reproducibility and quality management, and in biospecimen lifecycle and laboratory management. Using the Baobab open-source platform example, presenters will address operational issues such as interoperability and integration with other systems and platforms. The session will also highlight a training opportunity funded by the Africa CDC to support hands-on experience using Baobab LIMS at the South African National Bioinformatics Institute that will be available via the ASLM Academy.
