About

Project Proposals

PHA4GE welcomes project ideas from the global public health community. This page provides a pathway for individuals and organisations to propose projects that PHA4GE could help facilitate, support, or develop collaboratively.

Proposed projects may focus on specific pathogens, cross-cutting challenges, data standards, tools, guidance, or implementation efforts that advance genomic epidemiology for public health.

What Makes a Good PHA4GE Project?

Strong proposals typically:

  • Address a clear public health need or gap

  • Align with PHA4GE’s mission, values, and scope

  • Support open, interoperable, and reusable outputs

  • Engage or benefit public health stakeholders

  • Are feasible within a collaborative, community-driven model

Projects may evolve into Driver Projects, Working Group initiatives, or time-limited collaborative efforts.

What Can PHA4GE Support?

Depending on scope and fit, PHA4GE may support projects by:

  • Convening expert Working Groups or task teams

  • Providing technical guidance on data standards and best practices

  • Supporting co-development of tools, specifications, or guidance

  • Facilitating community review and consensus-building

  • Amplifying outputs through PHA4GE networks

Submission does not guarantee adoption, but all proposals are reviewed.

Who Can Submit a Proposal?

Project proposals are open to:

  • PHA4GE members

  • Public health agencies and laboratories

  • Researchers and implementers

  • Regional and global health partners

Proposals may be submitted by individuals or organisations.

How the Review Process Works

  1. Submit your proposal using the online form

  2. Initial review by PHA4GE leadership and relevant Working Group Chairs

  3. Discussion and refinement, if needed

  4. Decision on next steps and level of PHA4GE involvement

Proposers will be contacted with feedback or follow-up questions.

What You’ll Be Asked to Provide

The proposal form is designed to be short and practical. You will be asked for:

  • A brief project description

  • The public health problem or gap addressed

  • Proposed outputs or outcomes

  • Relevant pathogens, regions, or cross-cutting themes

  • Any existing partners or resources (if applicable)
