The PHA4GE AI Working Group has officially started its meetings, bringing together experts in ethics, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence to explore how AI can transform public health genomics.

In our recent discussions, members shared exciting initiatives and ideas, including:

  • AI Helpdesk for Trainees: Led by Perceval, a web application is in development to assist trainees and researchers with AI-related queries.
  • Guidance Documents & Best Practices: The group is reviewing existing methods for data standardization, AI model interoperability, and privacy settings, with plans to publish updated guidance documents alongside key scientific outputs.
  • Real-World Public Health Applications: Members are examining AI’s role in the last 5–10 years, identifying gaps in current technology and highlighting opportunities for data-driven outbreak response.
  • Addressing Missing Data: Improving data sharing, interoperability, and modelling for incomplete datasets remains a top priority for global public health initiatives.

By combining technical expertise with real-world experience, the PHA4GE AI Working Group aims to shape responsible, impactful AI applications in genomic epidemiology. Stay tuned as we continue to build tools, guidance, and collaborations that strengthen public health worldwide.
