Member Dr Barbara Ghiglione will shine a light on PHA4GE’s growing footprint at the upcoming Environmental Dimensions of Antimicrobial Resistance Conference 2026 (EDAR8), to be staged in Brisbane, Australia, from 2–7 August. Ghiglione, of the Institute of Research in Bacteriology and Molecular Virology (IBaViM) at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) in Argentina, will share an early look at how she implemented the PHA4GE Wastewater Contextual Data Specification in an antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance pilot at a hospital in Buenos Aires. The case study, says Ghiglione, explores how harmonised, standards-based metadata can make small-scale, resource-limited surveillance efforts interoperable and shareable — and how the same pathogen-agnostic framework is now being extended by the PHA4GE community to additional pathogens.
