Editorial

As we pass the midpoint of the year, it’s clear that 2025 has been a season of meaningful connection for the PHA4GE community. From workshops and conferences to new initiatives and reflections, one thing continues to ring true: the power of collective effort in shaping public health genomics across Africa and beyond.

Over the past few months, many in our network have travelled, shared, listened, and exchanged ideas for connection and learning. While the conversations may have varied, a common thread has run through it all: a growing sense of clarity and confidence in the value of regional collaboration, data equity, and community-driven science.

For some, these moments sparked new ideas. For others, they opened conversations on finding ways to address long-standing questions or opened doors for new collaborations. Most importantly, they reminded us that transformation isn’t always loud or immediate—it’s often layered, collaborative, and unfolding across relationships built over time.

This quarter, we also continued our work behind the scenes: building tools, strengthening networks, and creating spaces for learning and dialogue. None of it is possible without the people who show up, bring their curiosity, and keep asking what’s next.

Whether you’re working in a lab, shaping policy, mentoring others, studying or mapping out bold new ideas—your contribution matters. Public health genomics moves forward because of shared effort, steady hands, and collective vision. Together, we’re not just imagining the future—we’re building it.
