About the webinar
The recent outbreak of the Andres virus strain of hantavirus aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius prompted a swift and coordinated international response, involving the World Health Organization (WHO) and partner institutions around the world, including teams in South Africa, Senegal and Switzerland.
Within days of alarms being raised, genomic sequences were available, demonstrating how firmly genomic epidemiology has become embedded in disease surveillance systems alongside more established epidemiological approaches.
In this joint PHA4GE and IPSN webinar, we will explore how genomics has transformed epidemiology and public health surveillance, using the MV Hondius hantavirus outbreak as a timely case study.
The session will discuss how the outbreak has been managed so far, what it reveals about the preparedness of global surveillance systems, and what can be learned from the genomic sequences generated to date.
